Hispanic Heritage Month is a time to honor the stories, resilience, and contributions of Hispanic leaders who continue to shape industries and communities across the United States. One remarkable leader whose career reflects this spirit is Carmen Corvo-Roig, a Latina executive whose journey from the daughter of Cuban immigrants to a top role in the cruise industry is a story of perseverance, mentorship, and community impact.
Cuban Roots, Miami Dream
Carmen’s story begins with her parents, Cuban immigrants who arrived in Miami in 1966.
Her father worked on a factory loading dock, while her mother worked in a factory as a seamstress. Their creativity, resilience, and sacrifices shaped Carmen’s values and laid the foundation for her future success.
Growing up in Miami—a true melting pot of cultures—Carmen embraced diversity and opportunity. At just 15 years old, she took her first job at Carnival Cruise Lines, assisting passengers at the Port of Miami. That role opened the door to a lifelong career in hospitality and cruising, proving how early experiences can spark passions that last a lifetime.

Building a Career Through Mentorship and Service
Throughout her 30-year career with Carnival Corporation and later leadership roles with Azamara Club Cruises and Crystal Cruises, Carmen benefitted from mentors who recognized her potential. Leaders like Governor Bob Graham and Carnival President Bob Dickinson not only guided her professionally but also instilled in her the importance of giving back.
Carmen now pays it forward by supporting programs such as the Academy of Hospitality & Tourism (AOHT), which prepares young students for careers in hospitality and travel. She believes mentorship must be genuinely rooted in care, encouragement, and a commitment to empowering the next generation.

Leadership Inspired by Heritage
For Carmen, family and community remain at the heart of her success. She credits her parents’ sacrifices and her Miami upbringing for instilling her spirit of optimism, resilience, and determination. Guided by her mantra Carpe Diem—Seize the Day—she continues to inspire young professionals to embrace opportunity, believe in themselves, and build lives of purpose and service.
Her story is not just about climbing the corporate ladder—it’s about honoring her heritage, leading with integrity, and creating a legacy that uplifts others.
